Teaching in Beijing

Beijing plans to hire from 500 Native English Teachers to teach in Beijing primary schools starting September 2018.

It is an English Teaching Program at Primary Schools in Beijing, financed by Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, and organized by Beijing Language and Culture University. The aim of the program is to enhance the English education of local primary schools in Beijing with the recruitment of qualified foreign English teaching talents. Teachers will be assigned to primary schools located in different districts of Beijing.

Teachers will mainly teach oral English, as well as related curriculum construction and research activities for an approximate total of 16-20 teaching hours per week. The students are from 6 to 12 years old, and they have at least acquired some basic English. Class size is about 35 to 40 students. Each lesson is about 40 to 45 minutes. The textbook is decided by the primary school normally.

The working visa application normally takes about 3 months based on all required documents prepared.  The contract will be signed for 11 months (from September 1 to July 31 of the next year). If you further the contract for another year when it ends, you will receive one month vacation with full payment in August as bonus.

Housing

Beijing Language and Culture University and the primary schools will assist you to rent an apartment near your work place.

Flight

The first flight you take to China should be paid by yourself in advance. You can apply for reimbursement of it to the primary school. If the total amount of the ticket fare is less than 13,000 RMB, the primary school will make a complete reimbursement, if the total amount of the ticket fare exceeds 13,000 RMB, the primary school will cover 13,000RMB and you shall pay for the exceeding part. The primary school shall confirm the specific price and reserve the right of explanation.

Transport

1.Beijing Railway Stations

There are four major railway stations in Beijing, namely, Beijing Railway Station (oldest one, centrally located), Beijing South Railway Station (reportedly the largest station in Asia), Beijing West Railway Station and Beijing North Railway Station (offering regular intercity train services to the north and northwest, including lines to Badaling Great Wall). If you leave from Beijing by train or you take a train to Beijing, you’d better make sure the right train station.

2.Beijing Subway

Beijing Subway is an extensive underground rail system in Beijing. Presently, Subway Lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, Batong line, Changping line, Yizhuang line, Daxing line, Fangshan line and the airport express line are in service. It is convenient to take subway to every part of downtown and suburbs in Beijing.

3.Beijing Transportation Smart Card

Beijing Transportation Smart Card can be used in taking Beijing subway and bus.

Everyone could apply for Beijing Transportation Smart Card without the requirement of ID card, passport or other documents.

You can apply for the card in designated sites located at all Beijing subway ticket offices, some bus stations, supermarkets and post offices.

Using mobile phones in Beijing

If you wish to use your own phone from home, make sure to bring a compatible GSM/GPRS 900/1800 dual-frequency mobile phone and the phone must be an “unlocked” phone.

If your phone does not fit the description above, you can purchase one at a licensed China Telecom Service provider or a licensed mobile store. Then, you need to select a SIM card.
