International Story-Telling Competition

Aims

To allow students from different regions, of different ages to unleash their talents on stage; to promote cultural exchanges and develop drama in education. 

Introduction

The Competitions will take an ONLINE format in 2022. After the successful launch in 2018, 2022 will be the fourth year of the competitions. We have participants from major cities of the Asia Pacific regions. With the competitions going online, we look forward to seeing more participants from more parts of the world.

There are 5 categories:

Drama Competition (teams):

  • Kindergarten 
  • Primary School 
  • Secondary School 

Story-Telling Competition (individual)

  • Kindergarten
  • Primary School 

General Guidelines

  1. All competition entries shall be in English
  2. All participants shall upload their entry videos to youtube. The youtube link shall then be sent to the IDC (International Drama Competition) organizer. Entry videos in other formats shall not be considered.
  3. Videos of all SILVER and GOLD award winners shall be showcased in the IDC (International Drama Competition) youtube channel.
  4. Please check the important dates and specific guidelines for the different categories below.
  5. The IDC organizer reserves the right to reject any entries that carry sensitive contents.

Drama Competition (Team)

Kindergarten category

  • Each team shall have a minimum of 6 and no more than 20 participants; the oldest participant in the team shall not be older than 6 years of age.
  • Teams can be nominated by schools. Each school can nominate more than one team.
  • Time limit for each performance shall be 8 minutes
  • Participants are free to choose any scripts, including musicals.

Application: Please apply through this Google Form and pay the corresponding Entry Fee.

Primary category

  • Each team shall have a minimum of 6 and no more than 20 participants; the oldest participant in the team shall not be older than 12 years of age.
  • Teams can be nominated by schools. Each school can nominate more than one team.
  • Time limit for each performance shall be 15 minutes
  • Participants are free to choose any scripts, including musicals.

Application: Please apply through this Google Form and pay the corresponding Entry Fee.

Secondary category

  • Each team shall have a minimum of 6 and no more than 20 participants; the oldest participant in the team shall not be older than 18 years of age.
  • Teams can be nominated by schools. Each school can nominate more than one team.
  • Time limit for each performance shall be 20 minutes
  • Participants are free to choose any scripts, including musicals.

Story-Telling Competition (Individuals)

Kindergarten category

  • Each participant shall be 6 years old and below
  • The time limit shall be 5 minutes

  • Participants are free to use any props and/or costumes
  • Participants are free to use any simple backdrops and music accompaniment.

MARKING SCHEME

A. Presentation 40%
B.  Originality and Creativity 20%
C. Production: use of the stage, props,, costumes etc. 20%
D. General Performance 20%

Story-Telling Competition (Individuals)

A. Presentation 40%
B. Originality and Creativity 20%
C. Use of English (pronunciation, intonation, etc) 20%
D. General Performance 20%
Merit Below 60
Bronze 60 or above
Silver 70 or above
Gold 80 or above

Please note that the competitions focus on the integrity of live stage performances. The judge panel only expects simple but creative sets, props and costumes for the participants. Marks will not be given to video effects and recording techniques.
